People in the 21 st century are well aware of physical and mental health benefits of regular exercise and engaging in physical activities. Regular exercise in itself is essential for everyone under normal conditions. But in addition to health diseases and problems people had much more stress, anxiety, financial stress, boredom, sadness, and isolation to cope with. Therefore, it was very important for everyone to engage in any sort of physical activity in order to keep up good health.

Besides keeping a person healthy and fit, there are several other benefits of throwing oneself into regular exercise:
  1. Exercise helps boost the immune system: A better immune system helps the body fight infections. Therefore, during the time of COVID-19 it is essential to have a strong immunity. 
  2. Exercise prevents gaining extra weight: Exercise burns the extra calories and prevents accumulation of extra weight amidst the involvement of the human body in a limited number of physical activities.
  3. Exercise helps fight stress and anxiety: With the virus came along extra stress and anxiety among people of all age groups. Exercise was one of the best ways to cope with extra added stress because it boosts the mood and builds an emotional resilience.

Here is how I kept myself motivated to work out and exercise regularly when the gyms were closed, and social distancing was enforced. Exercise was a medium of family fun. Walks in our garden and morning yoga sessions motivated us to exercise together.

 A brisk walk outside or short cycling sessions sometimes broke the monotonous routine and helped us get fresh in addition to being a workout session. Online fitness classes and virtual training sessions had become a part of the daily routine. It not only added excitement because it was something new for all of us but also helped us interact with a lot of other people virtually. 

My cousins and I set up exercise goals for each other and set up competitions to keep us all motivated to achieve them. Although it was initially tough and required putting in extra efforts to get used to the new fitness regime but it was equally important in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Nowadays many people have adopted the traditional methods of fitness like yoga. People find yoga to be the most effective for having fit body. It not only makes them physically fit but also help them to gain inner peace. As more and more people are getting aware of Yoga and meditation, they have started getting positive results by practicing yoga each day.
