EVERYBODY GOT A ME TIME!

SELF LOVE AND CARE!

The coronavirus and the imposed lockdown led to people adopting new ways of living. While it came up as a challenge for many, for others it was about acquiring new talents and revisiting the old ones. The lockdown took away a large chunk of this year. People somehow found ways to get away with it because one has to do whatever it takes to survive, and it does not always necessarily means putting in pressure and extreme efforts. It can be as simple as doing what you love, and this was proved by the imposed quarantine.

I live in a joint family and I got to witness a variety of ways in which each one of the family members got through this as an individual and together as a family. Some of them slept for extra hours, something they had been wanting for years but never got a chance to. My sister and her friend connected through skype and did what they loved the most- designing dresses. The younger ones in the family finally got a reason to back up their demand for their favorite video games and Nintendo switches. I found out something that I should have known much earlier in my life that my mother plays sitar so well and that she was such a melodious singer.

I did not particularly develop a single hobby. I stuck to doing what I love. Sometimes it was simply lying and playing board games, sometimes I loved doing gardening with my grandfather. I went back to my old and golden days of painting and the pleasure was insane. The most prominent hobby that we came up as a family was cooking food at home. The ease of getting things delivered at home made life much easier and safer. Cooking food at home not only promoted good health but for me it promoted togetherness. My family adopted cooking as the official family hobby.

Food kept us connected despite boredom tried its best to bring in anxiety and other issues. Covid-19 also gave me a chance to see my dad help mom cook in the kitchen for the first time at least ever since I was born. Also, the people who were always left unnoticed by all of us, the grocery store workers, the vendors, and the farmers finally got what they deserved, a proper recognition as “essential workers” and a much-needed appreciation.

I loved baking but never really got enough time to bake in the last two years. During lockdown I continued my love for baking cupcakes and much more. I am also planning to open a new venture where I would bake cakes at home and sell to people. I have realized my passion for baking and would love to make my career in baking as well.
